Ole! Tarantula is in the house, but where’s the promised bonus CD?

stuff I hear
-
spider in the house
-
faint praise
Dylan’s Modern Times is a bit, uh, adult contemporary.
-
This is the Michelin commercial theme …
Manfred Mann and Mike Hug – The Michelin Theme
(More info at discogs. MP3 originally nicked from Steve York‘s site, and then lost on an obscure corner of my backup drive. Steve played bass on this track.)

It’s so clear that all we have now
(is) an absurdly complete Strawberry Switchblade fansite.

the late bp helium rocked the boat
the late bp helium played The Boat last night, and as a wise man once said, the crowd roared like a lion. I love that psych guitar sound that he has, and the band is really tight together. I got a chance to chat with Bryan — whom I know from fegmaniax — and he’s a fine bloke. He has mad guitar skills, to boot; reminds me of The Soft Boys, with serious effects pedals.
Jack & Ginger were excellent too, as were Henri Fabergé & The Adorables. -

But I’m not singing “At A Time Like This”, I’m singing …
The Hut Sut Song, perhaps the most infectious earworm you’ll ever hear.
… or if you want it a bit more accessible, here is an mp3 of The Hut Sut Song, converted from the same source.
-
a sample of what I was raving about
The Singing Saw Shadow Show could be my new favourite band. Here’s one of their pieces: The Singing Saw Shadow Show, recorded live at the Tranzac, 10 May 2006 (mp3).
(I used my iRiver H120, flashed with the RockBox firmware, and Minigear Labs binaural mics.)
-
i saw saws
You have got to see these folks! The Singing Saw Shadow Show were amazing the other night; wild raucous lo-fi that had me on the edge of my seat. I must get the old saw out and rosin the bow.
The support were interesting. Pyramid Culture, while better than Better Than Everyone, are okay if you want to learn about the perils of artificial sweeteners, face transplants and parasitic foetal twins. Faun Fables produced their art-rock pantomime The Transit Rider; fun, and with a fab rendition of The House Carpenter, too.
But go and see this Singing Saw Shadow Show if and when you can. They will blow you away.

sawing for teens
The Singing Saw Shadow Show is about to play the Tranzac – multiple saws, guitar, cello and drums inside a backlit tent. I’m so there.

Old German Guys were better than Coldplay
I guess by appropriating the main riff of Computer Love, Coldplay might’ve thought they could suck less. Nope. They’re still the Sade of the 2000s; music for chartered accountants.

We’re the Decemberists. No *we’re* the Decemberists!
Seems that the Decemberists (current indie band, of Portland) are a bit concerned to hear about the Decemberists (indie band out of Liverpool in the 1980s, now mostly known as the Hellfire Sermons).
The strange thing is, bassist for the (original, Liverpool) Decemberists is none other than my mate Andy Ford, who co-moderates liontower with me.
