Goodbye, Grocery Gateway

It seems that yesterday was probably our last Grocery Gateway delivery. The somewhat dejected driver said that service as we know it ends on Friday. If anything of the company remains, it won’t deliver the same range of stock, and it very probably won’t deliver in Scarborough.

Apart from their recent payment debacle (where they claimed that MasterCard had stopped a payment fully two months after the transaction — and afterwards, Grocery Gateway’s payments department was spectacularly rude to me, and gave me derisory compensation for the half day I wasted sorting out their error), we’ve found them to be useful. Most of our 40+ deliveries have been as we ordered, and on time. We’ll have to find an alternative now.

I’m disappointed that they weren’t more of a success. They didn’t seem to advertise very well, and never played their environmental card one bit. I don’t know how many car journeys a full grocery delivery van could cut out, but it’s a sane, rational way of dealing with our pollution problem.

Waitaminute — sane, rational, anti-pollution, North America? What was I thinking?

I was ordering continually from grocery gateway and I was extremely well run and excellent service and groceries…..As I am disabled I totally relied on grocery gateway for about 1 year…..then Longo took it over and they cancelled my last order, after waiting a week for it, and then only to inform me that they are no longer taking debit card at the door……I do not have credit cards and alot of the customers I had gotten for them have credit cards but they do not want to use it online. This is really upsetting because I can no longer use them……..This is really a problem for me now and I am currently trying to find another place that does the shopping and delivery.

  2. Have you found an alternative yet? Grocery Gateway was the best! Being totally blind and not having access to many drivers (if you want to spend a fortune on taxis that is), it was fantastic to use. We always seemed to manage to get surprises in our deliveries as well. The bigest seller for me was the Beer and wine delivery. I hate Longos.

  3. I have been ordering from Grocery Gateway throughout the entire mess, and they have really improved. Finally I can get all that I need, on time, and in reasonably good condition. What they need is to carry all the products on Longos stores (Longos is excellent) and debit.

I was extremely sad when grocerygateway as i knew it died and that horrible company Longo took it over last year 2004 .you see me along with 399 other grocergateway employees were out of a job. working for longo would suck . they are going to go under with the gateway name as well …….offered us jobs that sucked and the pay as well. I miss working for grocerygateway,,,was a grand 3 years of my life with awsome people ..with whom i worked with ..cheers! Lynne

  5. I have had horrible service from grocery gateway since they switched to longos- they do not seeem to care about their customers one bit. i will be looking for a new service soon.

  6. I left GG when they became a Longos entity and dropped Interac, but I’ve recently picked them back up with complete satisfaction (no I don’t work for Longos).

  7. I started using them in the 1990s!!! and lately it’s really gone down hill. the IOS app is terrible and half the time the web interface dies on me (I don’t have trouble anywhere else!).
    I emailed them with constructive advice and asked for help and they’ve ignored responding. I just don’t think they’re interested in being a leader in this space. I’m a bit sad after 20+ years of being a loyal customer but what can you do?
