As there was so much interest, I&#8217;ve decided to put up some useful links. Please feel free to comment\/add more, and I&#8217;ll incorporate them into the body of the entry.<\/p>\n<h2>Links<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ontario-sea.org\/\">OSEA<\/a> &#8212; the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. Dedicated to community-based renewable energy.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kortright.org\/\">Kortright Centre<\/a> &#8212; teaches short courses in renewable energy. They&#8217;re run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trca.on.ca\/\">Toronto and Region Conservation Authority<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.homepower.com\/\">Home Power Magazine<\/a> &#8212; the source for home-scale renewable energy. The previous issue is always online.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grassrootsstore.com\/\">Grassroots<\/a> &#8212; a local store who can help with any renewable energy\/low energy installation.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ippso.org\/\">IPPSO<\/a> &#8212; Independent Power Producers&#8217; Society of Ontario.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.web.ca\/~cfre\/\">CFRE<\/a> &#8212; Citizens For Renewable Energy. Based near the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skygeneration.ca\/\">Sky Generation<\/a> wind turbine on the Bruce peninsula.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canwea.ca\/\">CanWEA<\/a> &#8212;  Canadian Wind Energy Association<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifb.uni-stuttgart.de\/~doerner\/edoerner.html\">Heiner H. D\u00c3\u00b6rner<\/a> &#8212; catalogues wind energy designs that didn&#8217;t quite work. Has some pictures of the huge 4MW turbine built on Cap Chat.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cat.org.uk\/\">Centre for Alternative Technology<\/a> &#8212; based in mid-Wales, this charity has impressive resources on all aspects of renewable energy<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/homepages.enterprise.net\/hugh0piggott\/\">Scoraig Wind Electric<\/a> &#8212; Hugh Piggott has been home building small wind turbines for his remote community for years.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairisle.org.uk\/\">Fair Isle<\/a> &#8212; Britain&#8217;s most remote inhabited island. They&#8217;ve been using wind power for years. Coincidentally, this is where Catherine &#038; I met &#8230;  \u00e2\u02dc\u00ba<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Books<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wind-works.org\/\">Paul Gipe<\/a> has written some of the best books on the subject.  My favourite book of his is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wind-works.org\/books\/wind_energy_age.html\">Wind Energy Comes Of Age<\/a><\/strong> (John Wiley &#038; Sons, Inc,  New York, 1995. ISBN: 0-471-10924-X). It gives a good overview of the technology, and a rare look into the impact on society of wind energy.<\/p>\n<p>If you just want the heavy theory, the <strong>Wind Energy Handbook<\/strong> (Burton, Sharpe, Jenkins &#038; Bossanyi. pub John Wiley &#038; Sons, 2001. ISBN: 0-471-48997-2) has everything you need. Based on the famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/crest\/\">Loughborough Wind Energy Course<\/a> (formerly at Imperial College, London, where I took it), it&#8217;s absurdly complete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Nov 11, I gave a talk on wind energy and WindShare to the University of Toronto Natural Philosophers&#8217; Club.
