{"id":8365,"date":"2013-02-26T19:43:24","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T00:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scruss.com\/blog\/?p=8365"},"modified":"2024-03-06T10:31:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-06T15:31:18","slug":"too-much-packaging-newark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scruss.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/26\/too-much-packaging-newark\/","title":{"rendered":"Too much packaging, Newark"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/canada.newark.com\/\">Newark<\/a> really need to get a handle on their packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d ordered a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.home.agilent.com\/en\/pd-2090364-pn-U1177A\/infrared-ir-to-bluetooth-adapter\">bluetooth adapter<\/a> for my <a href=\"http:\/\/scruss.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/02\/not-your-dads-multimeter\/\">multimeter<\/a>. It needs a <a href=\"http:\/\/canada.newark.com\/jsp\/search\/productdetail.jsp?SKU=95T4188\">little doohickey<\/a> to attach to my meter, which Newark sent out by separate cover. That&#8217;s the part. It&#8217;s 70\u00d740\u00d715 mm, and made in Malaysia. It was packed bubble-wrapped in a sturdy little cardboard box (163\u00d773\u00d743 mm, or 12\u00d7 the volume of the part). That box was then packed in a very solid box (originally shipped from Penang to Gaffney, SC) measuring\u00a0 200\u00d7200\u00d7170 mm; that&#8217;s 162\u00d7 the part&#8217;s volume. Finally, that box was inside a third box of 330\u00d7245\u00d7220 mm, or 424\u00d7 little doohickeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thing is, the little doohickey is a tough injection moulded polymer part. It could probably be dropped in a padded envelope and survive any mail journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re going to die out for sure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newark really need to get a handle on their packaging.
