{"id":5915,"date":"2010-11-03T19:14:16","date_gmt":"2010-11-03T23:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scruss.com\/blog\/?p=5915"},"modified":"2010-11-03T19:14:16","modified_gmt":"2010-11-03T23:14:16","slug":"why-i-didnt-vote-for-george-smitherman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scruss.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/03\/why-i-didnt-vote-for-george-smitherman\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I didn&#8217;t vote for George Smitherman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I didn&#8217;t vote for <a title=\"Official website of the George Smitherman 2010 Toronto Mayoral Campaign.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.georgesmitherman.ca\/\">George Smitherman<\/a> because I fundamentally disagree with the secret deal he initiated with the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/opo\/en\/2010\/01\/korean-companies-anchor-ontarios-green-economy.html\">Korean consortium<\/a> (including <a href=\"http:\/\/samsungrenewableenergy.com\/\">Samsung<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kepco.co.kr\/\">Kepco<\/a>). A feed-in tariff is all about equal access to the right to connect. The consortium, with its guaranteed grid capacity, sidesteps this equal access.<\/p>\n<p>To make things worse, the consortium may have access to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleanbreak.ca\/2010\/01\/21\/samsung-ontario-ink-7-billion-solarwind-manufacturing-and-development-deal\/\">price adder<\/a> on top of the <a href=\"http:\/\/fit.powerauthority.on.ca\/\">FiT<\/a> prices. This is supposed to recognize the consortium&#8217;s expertise in the supply chain, and its consequential creation of jobs through local manufacturing.\u00c2\u00a0 There are many other companies \u00e2\u20ac\u201d some of which actually have supply chain experience in the renewable energy sector \u00e2\u20ac\u201d who would bring the same number of jobs for the same number of megawatts.<\/p>\n<p>So, ixnay on the Ithermansmay for that. There&#8217;s no way I&#8217;d vote for the <a title=\"Rob Ford\" href=\"http:\/\/www.robfordformayor.ca\/\">glistening oaf<\/a> (a phrase coined by <a href=\"http:\/\/c-raine.com\/\">Catherine<\/a> after seeing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/news\/national\/toronto\/rob-ford-the-lone-wolf-who-has-to-learn-to-lead-a-pack\/article1778833\/\">this picture<\/a>), so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayorjoe.ca\/\">Joe Pantalone<\/a> it was.\u00c2\u00a0 Joey Pants&#8217; campaign was, well, a bit <a title=\"pants: noun - rubbish, terrible, weak\" href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=pants&amp;defid=787840\">pants<\/a>, but he was the most appropriate of the candidates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I didn&#8217;t vote for George Smitherman because the secret deal he initiated with the Korean Consortium is anti-competitive and utterly counter to the spirit of any feed-in tariff. Pantalone, despite a rather weak platform, was closer to my ideals.
