  1. Shall Noise Upon \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Apollo Sunshine<\/a><\/em>: came to this completely cold, having never even heard of them. Stylistically all over the place: whisky and hellfire on one track giving way to mellow dippiness that I think even McCa<\/a> would blanch at. Ultimately, it’s Singing To The Earth (To Thank Her For You)<\/em> that sold it to me.<\/li>\n
  2. Funplex \u00e2\u20ac\u201d The B-52’s<\/a><\/em>: worth the wait from 1992. Fun dance music with gleefully smutty lyrics. Now my very favourite B-52’s album.<\/li>\n
  3. Music Tapes for Clouds and Tornadoes \u00e2\u20ac\u201d The Music Tapes<\/a><\/em>: look, it’s got Freeing Song By Reindeer<\/em> on it. If it doesn’t make you shed tears of joy while you caterwaul Ride the elves’ cloven-hooved horsey …<\/em> along with Julian, there’s something wrong with you.<\/li>\n
  4. Proof of Love \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Old Man Luedecke<\/a><\/em>: Chris Luedecke just gets better and better as a songwriter, and his self-deprecating stage persona as Old Man Luedecke is a hoot.<\/li>\n
  5. Recapturing the Banjo \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Otis Taylor<\/em><\/a>: great banjo work from this bluesman.<\/li>\n
  6. Everytime! \u00e2\u20ac\u201dSheesham & Lotus<\/em><\/a>: the high-steppin’, cake-walkin’ fiddle, banjo and harmonica duo release their first official album, recorded in crackly faux-78 “Sepiatone”. Almost as much fun as seeing them live.<\/li>\n
  7. Earth Sciences \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Laura Barrett<\/em><\/a>: Toronto’s queen of the kalimba<\/a>‘s second EP wins out over her full length release (Victory Garden), in that the EP has Robot Ponies<\/em>, and doesn’t have the annoying final track which appears to be all of the other tracks layered on top of one another.<\/li>\n
  8. Luna \u00e2\u20ac\u201d The Aliens<\/em><\/a>: Piper<\/em>-era Floyd mixed with the Beach Boys, all fed through a special Fife filter.<\/li>\n
  9. Me\u00c3\u00b0 Su\u00c3\u00b0 \u00c3\u00ad Eyrum Vi\u00c3\u00b0 Spilum Endalaust \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Sigur R\u00c3\u00b3s<\/em><\/a>: I still have no idea what they’re singing about, but I wish they’d keep doing it.<\/li>\n
  10. Then We Were Older \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Ideal Free Distribution<\/em><\/a>: another slab of catchy psych-pop from Kentucky.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Near Miss<\/strong>: Holler and Stomp \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Dressy Bessy<\/em><\/a>: angular bubblegum pop, quite delightful.
    \nDefinitely Demented<\/strong>: Live! From CarnEGGy Hall \u00e2\u20ac\u201d     Orriel Smith<\/em><\/a>: seriously, coloratura chicken impersonations. Beyond weird, and beyond brilliant.
    \nIt Came Out Last Year, So Now It’s All Car Ads<\/strong>: Oh, My Darling \u00e2\u20ac\u201d     Basia Bulat<\/a>: despite that, it’s great. And she plays autoharp.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
