They are meant to be a recognition of getting this far, and are celebrated at the person&#8217;s own discretion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is this for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#who-is-this-for\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maybe your birthday&#8217;s on a day associated with an unpleasant event. Your thousand day will <em>never<\/em> coincide with your birthday.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maybe your birthday&#8217;s in the middle of winter, or in another part of the year that you&#8217;re not keen on. Your thousand day is every 2 years and 3 seasons, so it shifts back by a season every time it happens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quantities and scale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#quantities-and-scale\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1000 days is approximately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2.738 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 years 269 days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 years 8.85 months<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 years, 3 seasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>4000 days is just shy of 11 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disadvantages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#disadvantages\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to regular birthdays, thousand days:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>must be calculated; they&#8217;re not intuitive when they&#8217;re going to happen. But we have computers and calendar reminders for that \u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>can be used to work out your actual date of birth, if someone knows that you&#8217;re going to be <em>x<\/em>000 days old on a particular day. It&#8217;s possible to know someone&#8217;s birthday, but not know their age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Implementations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#implementations\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Web<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#web\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My ancient <a href=\"https:\/\/scruss.com\/1000days.html\">Your 1000 Day Birthday Calculator<\/a>, first published in <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20030208055612\/http:\/\/www3.sympatico.ca:80\/scruss\/1000days.html\">2002<\/a> and untouched since 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shell<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#shell\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it turns out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gnu.org\/software\/coreutils\/manual\/html_node\/date-invocation.html\">GNU date<\/a> can handle arbitrary date maths quite well. For example: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">date --iso-8601=date --date=\"1996-11-09 + 10000 days\"<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>returns <em>2024-03-27<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Ways<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#other-ways\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excel or any other spreadsheet will do, too. Although not for too many years back<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">People with the same thousand day as you<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/scruss\/3e52ce929b651eedc815baf78df10874#people-with-the-same-thousand-day-as-you\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an idea for finding people who have a thousand day on the same day as you. I suggest using 1851-10-01 as a datum, because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>nothing particularly interesting happened that day;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it&#8217;s conveniently 43000 days before my birthday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>then calculate<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-syntaxhighlighter-code \"><pre class=\"brush: plain; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\n( (birth_date - 1851-10-01) mod 1000 ) + 1\n<\/pre><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This results in a number 1 \u2013 1000. For <em>$REASONS<\/em>, it turns out I&#8217;m not very good at implementing stuff.
