Updated, 2025-01-06<\/strong>: in light of today’s announcement<\/a>, I’ve updated the “issues” links with copies from the Internet Archive. All of the links had been redirecting to the LPC 2021 Platform<\/a> (archived copy<\/a>), which wasn’t very helpful.<\/em><\/p>\n

We’ve just had an election<\/a> in Canada. You probably didn’t know.<\/p>\n

The (now) majority Liberal Party of Canada<\/a> ran a set of 106 issues pages, and their stance on each. Visitors could vote on how they felt on these issues. The overall results aren’t tabulated there yet, so I took the liberty of scraping the data (harder than it looked<\/em>) and ranked it.<\/p>\n

Here are the top ten issues from the website, ranked by popularity:<\/p>\n

  3. Electoral reform<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. International students and temporary residents<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. Middle class tax cut<\/a><\/li>\n
  6. Helping families <\/a><\/li>\n
  7. Ending unfair tax breaks<\/a><\/li>\n
  8. Canada Post<\/a><\/li>\n
  9. Science and scientists<\/a><\/li>\n
  10. Post-secondary education<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I have no idea how objective this information is. I suspect some attempts were made to game the system, looking at the vote counts for the top two.<\/p>\n

    I’m very disappointed that the issue of Missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls<\/a> wasn’t even in the top twenty. C’mon Canada; for once, don’t let me down.<\/p>\n
