Radio Control: Wonderful RS-232
Most radios still use RS-232 for programming and control
Low data rates – 4800 or 9600 bps
Two types of USB-serial adaptor:
- FTDI FT232
- Prolific PL2032 – cheaper, more common
Both well supported under Linux
I find FTDI more reliable; YMMV.
Notes:
Used for setting radio frequency and also reading back manual settings by software.
If the interface is unlabelled, or doesn't say FTDI, it'll be a Prolific.
